Did I surprise you? Ha! I’m supposed to tell you how I loooove hugs, and tickles, but I couldn’t resist jumping out at you.
Oh, sorry. I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Luis. Hattie is my cousin. She told me there’s a book coming out on April 5 all about how she hates hugs. At first, I didn’t know that about her but now I do. Because she told me.
Even though I love hugs, and tickles too, I never hug Hattie. Well, not anymore. But you know what? Some other people kept hugging her, even though she tried to tell them not to.
That was Aunt Judy, mostly. She’s around here somewhere. You’ll know which one she is because she smells like asparagus. But I still love her hugs. And tickles, too. Not Hattie, though. Ok, time to play.
Err, there was something else Sarah wanted me to tell you. Oh yeah! Heather Brockman Lee, the amazing illustrator of Hattie Hates Hugs, made a coloring page to share with everyone. You can download it below or on the Books page.
That was it. Bye!
Hello. I’m Hattie’s great-grandma. She told you how I helped her establish boundaries, right? Eh? What’s that mean, you ask?
I don’t feel like talking about that right now. You can read about it in that book about Hattie coming in April. Hattie Hates Hugs, I think it is called.
I did want to tell you that Hattie is a wonderful girl. I had mixed feelings about the family reunion because the relatives are so loud. Not Hattie though.
Well, it all worked out in the end. No, no. No more questions. I don’t feel like talking anymore. I’m going to take a walk in the park.
Before I go- Sarah wanted me to share an endorsement with you.
Hi! I’m Hattie. I don’t usually like to talk about myself but since we just met, and since I can’t really see you, I’m going to tell you two important things about myself.
One, I really like horseshoes. I love to carry my lucky horseshoe around with me. Two, I hate hugs. You might have already figured that out by the title of a new book about me called Hattie Hates Hugs coming in April 2022.
I’m really excited about that book. One time, an adult asked me if there was going to be a second book where I learn to like hugs.
I hate hugs because that’s just the way I am. And now I know how to tell the people around me that I don’t want to be hugged. My great-grandma taught me how. I think you’re going to meet her soon.
Well, I’m off to pitch horseshoes. See you again in April!
